FAQs
Q: What is dry cleaning?
The dry cleaning process is called “dry” cleaning as there is an absence of water, and the garments are instead submerged in a liquid solvent. It is typically used to clean delicate fabrics that cannot endure the roughness and tumbling of a washing machine and clothes dryer. Garments can be pre-treated to remove stains before they are placed in the machine. The dry cleaning machine removes the solvents used during the pre-treatment process. Another set of solvents and soaps are applied during the machine process that dissolves stains. At this point, garments are further examined to determine whether they need additional treatment.
Q: Will dry cleaning shrink my clothing?
Although it is possible, our dry cleaning technicians carefully control the process so it is very unlikely that the process will shrink clothing. Our technicians are experienced in handling all types of fabrics and garments so you can be assured your clothes will come back exactly as you want them. All of our dry cleaning operations are controlled with particular programs that are specific for every garment and fabric type.

Q: Why should I dry clean my clothes rather than wash them at home?
Our dry cleaning technicians are experts in stain removal. Also, dry cleaning is able to dissolve grease and oils in a way that water cannot. Natural fibers like wool and silk dry clean wonderfully; however, when washed in water, those same fibers can shrink, warp and lose color. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester react well to dry cleaning, as well. If washed at home, those same synthetic fibers can retain oily stains. Dry cleaning is your best option if you want your garments to preserve their original condition and prevent shrinking, color loss or texture change.
Q: How often should I have my feather pillows cleaned?
Your pillowcases should be washed frequently. Once a year or so, your actual pillows should be reconditioned as well. You may also want to consider getting them serviced after winter or after a sickness. Even after you recover from your illness, the germs may be lingering on your pillows. Our feather pillow restoration includes a germ-killing tumble in UV light, fluffing and then given new ticking. Your pillows are now germ free and will feel brand new.
